Tuition Waiver System for Honor International Students

　At The University of Osaka, in order to strengthen our research capacity and further promote the acceptance of international students, we implement the Tuition Waiver System for Honor International Students for privately financed international students who are recognized as outstanding in the graduate school entrance examination.

This entrance examination (First Examination only) is eligible for the Tuition Waiver System for Honor International Students. International students who pass the examination and are recognized as outstanding will be nominated as candidates for a tuition waiver under this system. Applicants must meet all of the following requirements and apply using the “Application Form for the Tuition Waiver System for Honor International Students.”

  1. Your status of residence after enrollment will be “Student.”
  2. You are not receiving tuition support as a Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship student, an international student sponsored by a foreign government, etc.
  3. You are not receiving financial support equivalent to the tuition amount from a private scholarship or other funding intended to cover tuition.

After the admission results are announced, the result of your tuition waiver application will be notified by email.

Please also note that the criteria for outstanding international students in this Graduate School are as follows: you must satisfy one of (1) ①–③ and also (2). In addition, the number of tuition waivers available under this system in this Graduate School is one (1); therefore, not all applicants who meet the criteria will necessarily be selected.

If you wish to be considered for this tuition waiver, please be sure to take the First Examination.

Criteria for Honor International Students in This Graduate School

(1) English Proficiency
Applicants must satisfy one of the following (①–③):

①At the time of enrollment, you hold a qualification/test score equivalent to CEFR B2 or higher in English.

Please confirm the correspondence with CEFR on the website of each language test provider, etc.

(Reference: CEFR B2 = TOEFL iBT 72 / IELTS 5.5 / TOEIC (Listening & Reading) 785 (Listening 400, Reading 385))

②You have completed, with English as the primary language of instruction, an educational program that meets the admission eligibility requirements for entry to a master’s program or doctoral program (first stage) in Japan, or a doctoral program (second stage).

③This Graduate School determines that you have English proficiency equivalent to or higher than the level in ①.

(2) Academic Performance (GPA/Grade Point Average)
Your grade point average (GPA) for the most recent one-year period must be 2.50 or higher.

If a GPA cannot be calculated, submit a letter of recommendation (free format) from the dean (or higher) of your graduate school/faculty at your institution stating that your academic ranking at your current institution is within the top 20%.

If you have been enrolled in your current program for less than one year, calculate the GPA by going back to the previous program(s) as necessary.
