Course registration instructions (Syllabus)
Doctoral Course
You must earn at least 30 credits in total: 10 or more credits from Introductory Subjects (including the required 2 credits), 8 or more credits from Seminar Subjects, and 12 credits from Advanced Major Subjects.
Introductory Subjects are taken in the first year, Seminar Subjects in the second year, and Advanced Major Subjects in the second to third years.

Master’s and Doctoral Integrated Course
Students must earn a total of at least 26 credits: 8 or more credits from Seminar Subjects and 18 credits from Advanced Major Subjects.
Seminar Subjects are taken in the first year, and Advanced Major Subjects are taken from the first through the third year.

About the long-term enrollment system
What Is the long-term enrollment system
This is a system under which students who, due to circumstances such as having a full-time job, wish to complete the program by taking the curriculum in a planned manner over a period exceeding the standard duration of study (three years) may be permitted to do so. In our Graduate School, the period of study may be extended to four years under this system. However, any periods of leave of absence are not included in the above period.
Regardless of whether this long-term study system is applied, students who are unable to complete the program within the maximum period of enrollment will lose their student status.
Payment of Tuition
An amount equivalent to the tuition fees for the standard period of study will be paid in installments according to the approved long-term study period. Details such as the amount due and the payment schedule will be provided when permission for long-term study is granted.
Regarding Degree Applications
- Doctoral degree (by completion of a doctoral program)
The doctoral degree in the Doctoral Program (later stage) will be conferred on students who have been enrolled for three years or more, have earned the prescribed credits—at least 30 credits in the Doctoral Course, or at least 26 credits in the Master’s and Doctoral Integrated Course—and have received the required research supervision, and who have passed the dissertation review and the final examination (i.e., those who have completed the Doctoral Program of the United Graduate School in Child Development). The degree to be awarded is Doctor of Philosophy in Child Development.

- Doctoral degree by dissertation
In addition, for those who withdrew from this Graduate School after earning the required credits (and for whom three or more years have passed since such withdrawal), a doctoral degree by dissertation will be conferred if, following an assessment of academic ability, they pass the dissertation review. The degree to be awarded is, as with the program-based doctorate, Doctor of Pediatric Development.

Research Supervision Plan / Research Supervision Report
At this University, in order to clearly specify the methods and content of research supervision as well as the annual research supervision plan, each student is required to prepare a Research Supervision Plan. Each year, by around April, please discuss your research plan for the academic year thoroughly with your supervisor, complete the Research Supervision Plan form, and submit a copy to your supervisor and to the administrative office of your affiliated school.
To enable students to receive broad research supervision from faculty members in a variety of research fields, a co-supervisor may be appointed at the student’s request. If you wish to do so, please consult your supervisor.
If there are any significant changes to your research plan during the academic year, please consult your supervisor and add a summary of the changes in the “Special Notes” section.
After the completion of one year of research supervision, please complete the Research Supervision Report with an evaluation of your research progress and submit this form to your supervisor.
Attendance at Dissertation Public Hearings and On- and Off-Campus Research Seminars
To encourage graduate students to take an interest in research beyond their own work and to broaden their knowledge of related fields, to deepen their understanding of research conducted within the Graduate School, and to provide opportunities for students to develop skills in research presentations and Q&A, the Graduate School requires students to attend dissertation public hearings and on- and off-campus research seminars.
