Course registration instructions (Syllabus)
Students must earn a total of at least 30 credits: 18 or more credits from the Basic Introductory Subjects (including 4 required credits), 6 credits from the Basic Seminar Subjects, and 6 credits from the Basic Major Subjects.
Basic Introductory Subjects and Basic Seminar Subjects are offered in the first year, and Basic Major Subjects are offered in the second year.
Students are assigned to one of the five universities.Basic Introductory Subjects offered by other universities are attended via a web conferencing system. In the Basic Seminar Subjects, students deepen their understanding of what they have learned in lectures through observation and participation.
In addition, the timetable is designed with working students in mind. Even if they are too busy to attend classes as scheduled, they can take recorded lectures at any time through the e-learning system.
Regarding Degree Applications
The master’s degree in the Master’s Program is conferred on students who have been enrolled for at least two years, have earned the required 30 or more credits, have received the required research supervision, and have passed the master’s thesis review and the final examination (i.e., those who have completed the Master’s Program of the United Graduate School of Child Development). The degree awarded is Master of Child Development.

Research Supervision Plan / Research Supervision Report
At this University, in order to clearly specify the methods and content of research supervision as well as the annual research supervision plan, each student is required to prepare a Research Supervision Plan. Each year, by around April, please discuss your research plan for the academic year thoroughly with your supervisor, complete the Research Supervision Plan form, and submit a copy to your supervisor and to the administrative office of your affiliated school.
To enable students to receive broad research supervision from faculty members in a variety of research fields, a co-supervisor may be appointed at the student’s request. If you wish to do so, please consult your supervisor.
If there are any significant changes to your research plan during the academic year, please consult your supervisor and add a summary of the changes in the “Special Notes” section.
After the completion of one year of research supervision, please complete the Research Supervision Report with an evaluation of your research progress and submit this form to your supervisor.
Attendance at Dissertation Public Hearings and On- and Off-Campus Research Seminars
To encourage graduate students to take an interest in research beyond their own work and to broaden their knowledge of related fields, to deepen their understanding of research conducted within the Graduate School, and to provide opportunities for students to develop skills in research presentations and Q&A, the Graduate School requires students to attend dissertation public hearings and on- and off-campus research seminars.
In the Master’s Program, as one of the completion requirements for the the Basic Major Subjects offered in the second year (fall–winter semesters), students are required to attend dissertation public hearings and on- and off-campus research seminars from the first year through the second year.
